Heritage Day Cuisine, March 5, 2024

On Tuesday, 5th March, 2024, our students embarked on a culinary adventure to celebrate their diverse cultural heritage through food. Bringing utensils for cooking, they prepared dishes closely tied to their respective tribes, including native cuisines such as banku, fufu, tuo zaafi, and akpele. Represented were four distinct ethnic groups: the Akans, Ga-Dangmes, Ewes, and Northerners. Clad in attire reflective of their tribal affiliations-some in kente, others in smock (fugu)-they commenced their cooking activities. Setting the fire and diligently washing the cooking utensils, they began by chopping an array of vegetables including okra, pepper, tomato, onion, and more.

The aroma of traditional soups filled the air as they carefully simmered their creations. Once the soups were perfected, they proceeded with the main dishes-preparing akple, banku, and tuo zaafi, and pounding fufu with rhythmic precision.

As they worked, their efforts drew the attention of esteemed guests, including the headmaster and the chief executive officer, who observed and savoured the flavours of their culinary endeavours. Afterward, the fruits of their labour were shared with their fellow learners, spreading the joy of their heritage through the taste buds of all who partook.
